These are made from a combination of herbs . Traditionally it is in the form of a powder. For application warm water is added and into a paste to be applied at specific areas  of the body. The disadvantage of such a paste however is that it is messy and can leave a yellow mark on the forehead.  Modern technology  has enabled the paste to be converted into cream form without losing its effectiveness.

Pilis

Pilis can be applied on the forehead. 2 to 3 times a day or when  necessary.

It helps to reduce headaches,  dizziness and blurred vision.

Tapel

Tapel is applied at the abdomen area before the Gurita and bengkung is wrapped around it.

It’s main function is to reduce wind and water retention in the abdomen area. It also helps muscle healing.

Param

Param is applied over the parts of the body where there is aching (where pilis and tapel is not applied).

It’s main function is to reduce the aches and pain as the joints and muscles readjust to its original position.

Belly  wrapping or binding is a very important part of traditional Malay postpartum treatment.  Because of its benefits many other cultures have now adopted it. Postpartum belly binding is a method of wrapping  the abdomen of a postpartum women with a bengkung(Malay word for binder).

The bengkung is a long strip of cloth that is used to wrap the abdomen from the hip to below the ribcage. Women  traditionally start the wrapping around 3 to 5 days after delivery.  The binder should remain in place between 6 to 8 hours for best results. To prevent itching, at Women’s  Wellness Werkz, we use a Gurita (soft cotton cloth) to wrap around the abdomen before applying the bengkung. For how many days it should bengkung be used, varies from 10 to 40 days depending on one’s need.

In addition to the long cloth,  the modern binder has many different designs and uses Velcro for tightening. These modern bengkung may be used after the 10th day

 

Body scrub is the use of a combination of natural traditional Indonesian ingredients to gently cleanse and polish the skin. It is normally done after a full body massage. After the scrub you need to shower to cleanse yourself.

There are 2 types of Yoni fumigation – dry and wet. In the dry method heat infused with herbs is used whilst in wet method steam infused with herbs is use. Both have similar benefits and are interchangeable.

Yoni or vaginal fumigation is a process of directing herb infused steam/ heat through the vagina. The patient is normally required to sit on a special stool with a hole in the centre. A pot of hot water boiled with herbs / pot of heated herbs is put under the stool. The steam/hot air is then directed to the vagina. This process will take about 15 to 20 minutes.
